Wedding DJ Equipment Checklist
Speakers
The first thing you will need is a pair of speakers. Typically two professional grade, 12-inch speakers from brands like QSC, Mackie, Yamaha, Electro-Voice (EV), JBL or Peavey. Here are a few that I recommend…
Make sure you know how many guests will be attending because if it’s more than 150 people or so, you may want to consider adding a few more speakers to accommodate sound for all guests.
Speaker Poles
You will want to make sure you have speaker poles to mount the speakers on. I tend to use on-stage brand however I just recently purchased some LED speaker poles that are much cooler, here is a picture of what they look like.
Speaker Stand Covers
In this same picture, you will see that I placed white speakers stand covers over the speaker poles. I used white because I have the LED speaker poles but they are hard to keep clean. If you are not using LED speaker poles, the black ones will work just as good.
Headphones
You will need a great set of noise canceling DJ headphones. I use the V-MODA Crossfade M-100s and I absolutely love them.
DJ Controller/Turntables
One of the most important items on this wedding DJ equipment checklist is the source for which you will play your music. If you like the vinyl feel then you will want a pair of turntables, if you’re going the digital route then you will want a DJ controller.
Wireless Microphone
Make sure you have a wireless mic. If you are providing DJ services for the ceremony too, then you may want to consider having a lapel microphone. I recommend using Shure brand.
Cables and Extensions Cords
You will want to make sure you have all of the needs cables and extension cords to connect all of this equipment together. I usually bring way more than what I would need because it’s better to have more than enough than not enough. Monoprice.com is a great place to get these from.
Lighting
Majority of the time you will want some type of lighting whether it’s uplighting, dance floor lighting, etc. especially if the wedding you have to DJ is at night or inside a venue that has the ability to dim the lighting.
Don’t forget the means you will use to control your lights.
Cart
It is a good idea to have a cart or hand truck to bring the DJ equipment into the venue on. Your body and back will thank you tremendously.
Timeline
The timeline that you will need to guide you through the wedding reception. You can also put the couples names, key members of the family and wedding party.
Music
Last but not least, you will need your music of course. I usually have it already organized in Serato separated by prelude music, ceremony songs, cocktail hour songs, dinner songs, special songs and dance songs.
Gaffers Tape
Gaffers tape is good to have in case you need to tape down any wires that cause a tripping hazard. Make sure to get the good stuff so that you are not ruining the floors at venues when you pull the tape up after the event. Good gaffers tape will pull up easy leaving no sticky residue on the floor. Your venues will appreciate this.
Wedding DJ Equipment Checklist Extras
Now that we’ve got all of the basics covered, here are a few extra things you may or may not need if you’re going to be setting up DJ equipment for a wedding.
Extra Sound System
In some cases, you may need an extra sound system. This will be needed if you are providing DJ services for the ceremony and reception and the ceremony is in a different location than the reception.
Back Up DJ Equipment
Make sure you have extra DJ equipment on hand in case something goes out.
