Follow these local SEO tips to get your service or product ranked high in the search engines when people include “near me” in their search phrase.
Local SEO Tip #1 – Area Code
The first thing you want to make sure of is that you have a local phone number. Having an 800 number will not help your local search results but having a phone number with the local area code will.
People can also get turned off by an 800 number thinking they’re calling one of those companies that has a lot of local listings for every city.
Local SEO Tip #2 – Talk Local Language
This means to talk about local stuff on your website. If you’re in Tacoma, WA, list local landmarks like the Tacoma Dome or Wright Park and you can even include driving directions on your site.
Having local freeways and street names will help when people put “near me” in their search phrase.
Local SEO Tip #3 – Keyword Research
Research the local keyword phrase you are trying to rank high for. For example, if you want to rank high for “wedding DJs near me,” google “wedding DJs near me.”
The results will reveal the top sites Google is pulling from for this data.
Here are the results from searching “wedding DJs near me” from Tacoma, Washington.
WeddingWire, Thumbtack and The Knot make up the top four results so you will want to be sure to be listed on those sites.
Local SEO Tip #4 – Get Great Reviews
Do great work and get great reviews. How many times have you searched something and the and the number one result had 9 reviews, the number two result had 2 reviews and the number three result had 89 reviews?
Which one did you click on first?
More likely than not people will click on the one with the most reviews. Over time, the search engine will move you closer to the top since you are getting more clicks than everyone else.
Local SEO Tip #5 – Google My Business
Make sure you have a Google My Business account and have a local address in google maps. This will help tremendously when people are searching with “near me” and they are near that address.
