When people visit your home, you expect them to respect it and conduct themselves accordingly.
It should be the same concept when you visit a venue to DJ a gig. You want to treat the venue as if it were your own.
If you do this, venue owners will love to have you back, speak very highly of you and may even add you to their preferred DJ list which can lead to lots of potential bookings.
If you decide not to treat the venue with care, well… it can be a costly mistake and you won’t last long as a professional DJ. Word will get around fast so why not use this to your advantage?
Here are seven tips to making sure the venue you DJ at will become your biggest fan.
5 DJ Tips To Keeping Venue Owners Happy
1. Proper Speaker Stands
If you’re using speaker stands for your gig, make sure the rubber feet are on all three legs of your stand. This will keep the metal from scratching the floor of the venue.
2. Clean Up
If you have to tape down any wires, make sure you are using professional gaffers tape. It’s designed to not leave any sticky residue behind when you pull it up and not pull any paint or finish off the venue’s floor.
At the end of the night, make sure to grab all of the tape off the floor and throw it away along with anything else that needs to be trashed.
3. Offer to Help
If you’re done setting up for the gig and you see the venue staff still prepping for the event, offer to help out. This will really impress them and will easily become one of their favorite DJs.
4. Watch the Noise Levels
Some venues have noise level limits. This is common for outdoor venues, hotel ballrooms or venues in a neighborhood.
If the venue does have a noise limit, please follow it. They may even come and ask you to turn down the music you play during your set. Keep a positive attitude and lower your volume.
5. Be A Team Player
You the DJ, the venue, catering staff, photographer, and any other vendor brought it to work the event all have one thing in common – to put together a successful event for your client.
Be aware of everything that’s going on to make sure the event is running smoothly not just the DJ stuff. If you see something out of wack, fix it or notify the proper person that can fix it
